Galatians 6:9; Philippians 3:14

Have you ever challenged yourself to learn something new, achieve a goal, or become a better person in general? How did you do? Unfortunately, many of us set goals we never reach. We start with our hearts in the right place, but as the novelty wears off, the hard work becomes overwhelming. This is probably why about 80% of New Year’s resolutions are said to fail.

Perseverance, or a “slow-and-steady-wins-the-race” mentality, is a common trait of successful people. You want to graduate in the top ten percent of your class, win a Bible-quizzing tournament, or learn a new language? Perseverance is essential to reaching those goals. But perseverance is even more important in matters that affect your soul. Those who lack perseverance are unlikely to stay true to God when faced with trials.

So hang in there! Don’t give up: it may be challenging to persevere to the finish, but it’s worse to live with regret.

Pray: Jesus, when I’m tempted to give up, remind me that You persevered on the cross. I want my commitment to You to be rock-solid; I want others to be able to look to me as an example of determination. Thank You for never giving up on me!
