Loving Like Jesus
November 2nd, 2016
John 15:12
How would the world change if we loved others the way Jesus loves us? Gossiping, criticism, jealousy, and many other sins would virtually disappear. Instead of befriending others for what we can get from them—acceptance, companionship, and prestige, among other things—we’d view every individual as the priceless soul he or she is: someone who is going to spend eternity in either Heaven or Hell.
How can we learn to love people the way Jesus does? John 15:10 says that we can abide in God’s love by keeping His commandments. Instead of viewing the Bible as a book of nice suggestions, we can pray that God will help us fall in love with it—to realize that the Word of God is life! When we fall in love with God and His Word, it will follow that we will fall in love with the masterwork of His creation: humanity.
Pray: God, sometimes I am selfish. I befriend people for what they can do for me, and I get frustrated with them when they disappoint me. Sometimes I’m unkind, or I’m so self-centered that I don’t realize there are people around who need to see Your love in me. Help me to fall in love with You first, and then help me to love people with the purity that You do.
