You are God’s Amazing Creation
January 11th, 2017
Psalm 139:13-14; Jeremiah 1:5
Have you ever noticed that some days you can look in the mirror and feel pretty good about what you see . . . and then others, you’re about as thrilled with your reflection as you are about the school cafeteria’s Meatloaf Mondays? Thanks to hormones, those crazy chemical messengers that sometimes hijack your emotions, fluctuating moods are one of the joys of being a teen.
Sometimes, however, self-dissatisfaction stems from more complicated sources. Maybe the popular girl in geometry smirked at your choice of t-shirt, or maybe a certain group of kids made you feel unwelcome, despite your attempts to try so hard to fit in.
You know this already, but no one else’s opinion of you affects reality—the reality that you are the breathtaking creation of God. Psalm 139 says, “Thou hast possessed my reins.” It’s said that the Hebrews believed the “reins” were the first part of the human fetus that is formed. So in other words, God Himself laid the very foundation of your being. He knit you together as a unique masterpiece. No matter how lame or unattractive anyone tries to make you feel, you are stunning the way you are; you are good enough.
Pray: God, help me to base my confidence and identity in You. I don’t need others’ acceptance in order to like myself. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
